Kenya's travel seasons

Travellers commonly plan around Kenya's wetter and drier periods.

For Watamu, current travel guidance highlights December–March and July–October as generally favourable dry-season periods, while April–May are wetter.

However, weather should not be the only factor in your decision.

If safari is your priority

The drier periods can be attractive because wildlife viewing conditions can be easier and roads may be more manageable.

But Kenya is a year-round destination, and the experience changes with the season.

If Watamu is your priority

Watamu gives you another reason to consider timing carefully.

Your holiday could include:

Diving Snorkelling Marine park trips Mida Creek Gede Ruins Arabuko-Sokoke Beach time

Water conditions and tides can influence some marine experiences.

If you want safari + beach

This is where planning becomes much more important.

Rather than selecting your travel dates based on one activity, build the itinerary around your priorities.

For example:

Days 1–3: Watamu Day 4: Marine experience Days 5–6: Safari Day 7: Return transfer

Or create a longer trip with diving and a multi-day safari.

The best time is ultimately your time

If your dream is a Kenya holiday, don't wait for a mythical “perfect month.”

Instead, ask:

What do I want my Kenya experience to look like?

Then plan around it.
