You've decided you want a safari from the Kenyan coast.
Good choice.
Then someone asks:
"Tsavo East or Tsavo West?"
And you're back to square one.
Both are part of the enormous Tsavo ecosystem.
But they offer different experiences.
Tsavo East
Tsavo East is often associated with vast open landscapes and wildlife viewing.
For someone staying in Watamu, it can also make practical sense when building a coast-to-safari itinerary.
Tsavo West
Tsavo West has a different visual character.
The landscape is more varied, and the park includes areas of rugged terrain.
KWS lists several access points and notes a road connection between Tsavo West and Amboseli.
That can make Tsavo West particularly interesting when designing a multi-park itinerary.
So which one should you choose?
Instead of asking:
"Which park is better?"
Ask:
How much time do I have?
Where am I staying?
What wildlife interests me?
Do I want a single-park safari or a combination?
Am I travelling with children?
Those questions produce a much better answer.
And sometimes the answer is both
For a longer safari, Tsavo East and Tsavo West can potentially form part of a broader itinerary.
But adding another park isn't automatically better.
Every additional destination means more logistics.
The objective should be to create a comfortable, well-paced safari.
